Assessment 1 โ Individual Report: Addressing Information System Integration Challenges
Overview:
This assessment is designed to evaluate your ability to apply theoretical and practical knowledge from ICT508 to address a real-world business challenge. The focus is on corporate collaboration, specifically the integration of information systems (IS) between two organizations.
In this scenario, Tesla Inc. and Lucid Motors Automotive have entered into a partnership to develop innovative electric vehicle technologies. For this collaboration to be effective, their information systems must be integrated. The primary challenges involve eliminating redundancies, streamlining business processes, and ensuring seamless communication while addressing organizational, ethical, and technological considerations.
By completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your understanding of the following key areas:
- Organizational Features (Week 2):
- How aspects such as culture, structure, and processes impact IS integration.
- How organizational politics and resistance to change might influence implementation.
- The role of strategies such as Porterโs Competitive Forces Model or Value Chain Model in identifying opportunities and addressing challenges.
- Ethical and Social Issues (Week 3):
- How to navigate ethical dilemmas in IS, including data privacy, intellectual property, and accountability.
- Ensuring compliance with legal frameworks, such as GDPR, while implementing collaborative technologies.
- IT Infrastructure and Emerging Technologies (Week 4):
- The importance of selecting the right IT tools and platforms (e.g., cloud computing, edge computing, enterprise software) to meet integration needs.
- Evaluating the scalability, cost-efficiency, and sustainability of proposed solutions.
Your task is to critically analyze the integration challenges, identify a suitable model and tool, and propose a detailed, realistic plan for addressing the identified issues. Additionally, you will outline measurable criteria to evaluate the success of your proposed solution.
Scenario
Tesla Inc. and Lucid Motors have joined forces to pioneer advancements in electric vehicle technologies. To enhance collaboration, they aim to integrate their information systems, aiming to eliminate redundancies, streamline operations, and ensure seamless communication. Your task is to analyze this integration challenge and propose solutions using information systems concepts.

- Carefully read the scenario to identify key challenges related to integrating information systems for Tesla Inc. and Lucid Motors.
- Consider how organizational aspects such as structure, culture, and business processes (discussed in Week 2) influence this challenge.
- Selecting a Model and Tool:
- Choose one model (e.g., Porter's Competitive Forces Model, Value Chain Model) that aids in analyzing the organizational and strategic aspects of the integration.
- Select one tool (e.g., enterprise software, cloud platforms) that can address the integration challenges.
- Provide a brief rationale for your choices.
- Proposing a Solution:
- Explain how Tesla Inc. and Lucid Motors can utilize the selected model to better understand their integration challenges.
- Demonstrate how the chosen tool can facilitate the solution. For example:
- Address organizational issues like politics, culture, and efficiency (Week 2).
- Discuss ethical concerns, such as data privacy and security (Week 3).
- Explore how modern IT infrastructure trends, like cloud computing, can enhance system scalability (Week 4).
- Evaluating Success:
- Suggest methods to measure the success of your proposed solution. For instance:
- How can improvements in efficiency or collaboration be tracked?
- What indicators will signify that the integration is effective?
- Suggest methods to measure the success of your proposed solution. For instance:
