Specification
Overview
The UK Higher Education Consortium is inviting proposals from companies to develop a clear and easy-to-implement workflow that enables universities to identify the use of AI in coursework. Your team from ABC Ltd. (choose any name of the company that you would like to use in the competition) have 5 weeks to develop a proposal to win this competition. Your team has members with different skills related to the project and they will work together to develop the proposal. During these 5 weeks members of your team will undertake a feasibility study to develop the proposed workflow. Your workflow will not be the final product and may include scoping and suggestions for using tools and guidelines without trialling them. The UK Higher Education Consortium will provide a much larger budget for implementing the workflow this if your proposal is accepted. You are allowed to use AI to generate ideas or proofread for grammar. You are not allowed to write entire paragraphs or to conduct your core analysis/findings.
Description
Your ABC Ltd. team will deliver a clear, step-by-step workflow that helps university staff to identify the application of AI in student submissions, and to help authenticate student effort. Over 5 weeks, you will develop a plan for the necessary tools, templates, and guidance needed for the UK Higher Education Consortium to confidently adopt your proposed project.
You will work in a team of 6 students. The teams will be formed by the module organiser based upon the information that students have supplied in the shared excel sheet. You will work with your peers that have a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences. Please respect differing opinions which is a common trait in professional work environments. You should also consider intellectual property, ethical and legal issues when preparing your proposed workflow.
Deliverables
CW02 is a report is written report of up to 6 pages with your company’s proposal which includes a description of the workflow, figures and references. The first page which will not be included in the page limit must only have the title of the project with the name of the company, names of all the group members with their roles and student IDs. The report will also include an appendix that is also not included within the page limit which contains the following necessary elements in the workflow:
- AI Use Policy & Disclosure Form (for students)
- Marker Toolkit (decision tree, checklists, evidence log)
- Effort Rubric (for marking)
- Information Pack (slide deck, staff/student guides, quick-reference cards)
- Communications Templates (module announcements, handbook inserts)
A few examples of these elements will be discussed during the lab sessions, and it is expected that students will try to finish most of their tasks within the lab sessions. The same report is to be submitted by each student in the team, except at the end of each submitted report the student must add their own reflective report of at most one page which uses the Context–Action–Result–Link (CARL) method.
CW03 is a 10-minute presentation, with additional time for questions. You should assume the industry norm which is that your report has not yet been read by the marking team. The purpose of the presentation is to explain your work in CW02.
Both CW02 and CW03 are group work, so the CMP Policy on Group Work will apply. That policy requires that each team member make an estimate of their contribution to the project. That contribution should be evidenced with a project log which should give a brief account of the time spent by each team member on the project and justification for the effort split. We recommend you use Trello or other project management software to keep track of who is doing what and to log tasks. Your report and presentation slides should be submitted as a single PDF.
Out of scope
- Development of proprietary AI-detection software.
- Mandatory university-wide policy changes.
- Full-scale, multi-departmental training.
Further information on the reflective report
Your reflective report should use the Context–Action–Result–Link (CARL) framework and cover the following 5 items:
- Team Collaboration – Describe the task, how your team organised roles, communicated, and shared responsibilities to complete the project.
- Your Contribution – Provide concrete examples of your actions and technical input to the project.
- Peer Contributions – Reflect on the contributions of your team members and how these influenced the team’s success. Include how you addressed challenges such as uneven participation.
- Strengths and Areas for Improvement – Analyse what worked well and what could have been improved in your teamwork and project execution.
- Skills Developed and Future Application – Identify the technical and transferable skills gained, explain how they were developed, and reflect on how these will support your future work in technology-related roles.
In addition to the above points please also consider these suggestions:
- Focus on your own actions and reflections but integrate peer contributions naturally into the narrative.
- Use examples from the project to show problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills in context.
- Clearly link skills that you have developed to potential careers in computer science (e.g. software development, data analysis, or cybersecurity).
- Keep the report concise (max 500 words) and well structured.
- Do not forget to write your name and Student ID on the top of that page that contains your reflective report.
Resources
Lectures and lecture notes, discussions with Lecturers & ATs in the weekly labs, reading list, additional material will be provided during the lab sessions.
Tips for the team report
The report and presentation will include a discussion and explanation of the AI methods you chose to design and/or include as part of your workflow. Your report may use some of the standard techniques of software or data-analysis such as UML diagrams, stakeholder analysis; personas, empathy maps, MoSCoW, user stories etc. It may also include some information on costs to run the final full project and an analysis of the problem domain, with evidence for defending the decisions that your team has made with respect to the brief.
If you need additional help in deciding how to structure and focus your work, please discuss this with the Module Organiser (Raheel Hassan) in the labs in the first instance. Further guidance on team building, management and how to tackle the assignment (there are several approaches) will be given in labs.

Plagiarism, Collusion and Contract Cheating
The University takes academic integrity very seriously. You must not commit plagiarism, collusion, or contract cheating in your submitted work. Our Policy on Plagiarism, Collusion, and Contract Cheating explains:
- what is meant by the terms ‘plagiarism’, ‘collusion’, and ‘contract cheating’
- how to avoid plagiarism, collusion, and contract cheating
- using a proof reader
- what will happen if we suspect that you have breached the policy.
It is essential that you read this policy and you undertake (or refresh your memory of) our school’s training on this. You can find the policy and related guidance here:
https://my.uea.ac.uk/departments/learning-and-teaching/students/academiccycle/regulations-and-discipline/plagiarism-awareness
The policy allows us to make some rules specific to this assessment. Note that:
In this assessment, you are permitted to work within groups proscribed by the assessment setter. Discussing solutions to tasks between groups, or groups otherwise working together to perform the assessed tasks will be considered as a breach of university regulations.
Please pay careful attention to the definitions of contract cheating, plagiarism and collusion in the policy and ask your module organiser if you are unsure about anything.
