Title of assignment
Mind Map on Contemporary Professional Nursing in Australia
Assessment Requirements
Create a detailed mind map that critically examines a range of social, technological, environmental, cultural, and economic factors influencing contemporary professional nursing in Australia. The word count is 1000, which is equivalent to 1500.
The assignment type is a Mind map. A mind map is a type of infographic in which visual curation is key to presenting the content. The content of the mind map is an organised arrangement of information pertaining to a central idea. The connection between information as relationships, context, or processes allows the author to communicate or understand complex topics in manageable, smaller components.
This assessment has a weighting of 30%.
Please consider the assessment type and purpose of the assignment carefully as you construct your assessment. Refer to instructions for explicit information to abide by as you plan the work, the rubric to understand what needs to be demonstrated and how the work will be marked, and also the IHM Assessment Design and Moderation Procedure to understand the purpose of each assessment type (https://ihm.edu.au/pdf/procedures/Assessment_Design_Moderation_and_Validation_Procedure.pdf).
ULO Mapping:
- ULO 1. Analyse contemporary professional issues facing the discipline of nursing.
- ULO 2. Appraise the literature in relation to organisational and regulatory frameworks that impact nursing as a profession.
- ULO 3. Critically examine a range of social, technological, environmental, cultural and economic factors that influence contemporary professional nursing.
Task Overview:
A mind map provides a visual representation of ideas and concepts, structured around a central theme with branches that extend to related subtopics, making it an effective tool for organising and connecting information. It promotes logical thinking, creativity, and critical analysis by illustrating relationships between different elements through hierarchical structures, colour coding, and visual markers such as lines, icons, or images. Commonly used in education, research, and problem-solving, mind maps help in brainstorming, knowledge retention, and understanding complex topics by breaking them down into smaller, interconnected components.
This mind map should visually and logically structure key concepts, interconnections, and implications for nursing practice.
Task Objective:
The objective of this assessment is to evaluate students' ability to critically analyse and integrate key factors influencing contemporary professional nursing. Specifically, this assessment aims to:
- Analyse contemporary professional issues facing the nursing discipline by examining social, technological, environmental, cultural, and economic factors that impact nursing practice.
- Appraise relevant literature on organisational and regulatory frameworks affecting nursing as a profession, including NMBA Standards for Practice, and Australian healthcare policies.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how these factors interrelate and shape the evolving landscape of nursing in Australia, fostering evidence-based decision-making and critical thinking.
Assessment Instructions and Advice:
Create a mind map to critically examine contemporary professional nursing in Australia and the influences from a range of social, technological, environmental, cultural, and economic factors.
The following suggested methodology can be used in creating and developing the mind map to ensure all the key rubric criteria are met:
1. Identify Key Themes
Develop at least five primary branches representing the following factors:
- Social Factors
- Technological Factors
- Environmental Factors
- Cultural Factors
- Economic Factors
Under each branch, explore and categorise specific elements affecting professional nursing practice in Australia.
2. Analyse and Link Concepts
Clearly show relationships and interdependencies between the factors. For example:
- How economic factors influence social determinants of health
- The impact of technological advancements on cultural practices in health care.
Use connecting lines, sub-branches, or colour-coded categories to represent these relationships effectively.
3. Incorporate Evidence and Frameworks
Support your mind map with relevant evidence-based practice, professional standards, and regulatory guidelines. Examples include:
- NMBA Standards for Practice
- Australian healthcare policy
- National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan
Provide at least one example of an evidence-based practice or framework under each primary factor.
4. Demonstrate Depth of Critical Thinking
Include a critical analysis of the challenges and opportunities presented by each factor. Discuss implications such as:
- The impact of AI in nursing and ethical concerns.
- The role of cultural competence in improving patient outcomes
- Climate change's effects on healthcare infrastructure and patient care
Ensure a balanced discussion that evaluates both risks and benefits.
Key Assessment Criteria:
Your mind map will be assessed based on:
- Comprehensiveness and accuracy in addressing all required factors
- Depth of analysis and demonstration of critical thinking
- Logical organisation and clarity in presenting interconnections
- Use of evidence-based frameworks to support discussions
- Visual effectiveness in conveying complex relationships.
